Originally known as Andalusia, the town is home to the headquarters of the Department of Water Affairs, responsible for managing the Vaalharts irrigation scheme and was named for the Minister of Agriculture, Jan Kemp, in 1954. GENERAL INFORMATION How to get there Warrenton 22 km, Kimberley 82 km HISTORICAL VIEW The old border between the Cape and Transvaal Provinces used to run through the town, dividing it in half. This made it impossible to establish any local authority.
